Aussie Curves: Headwear

I'm not sure when it happened, but I think it may have started after my first summer trip to New York 3 years ago. I found a cute little white hat in Harlem for like $6....I never realised it at the time but hats seem to be another little outfit saver for me. I'm always short on time and the trusty hat always seems to liven up my dull outfits. These pics were taken in the afternoon. We'd had lunch, watched some movies, rolled around on the carpet.....we may have even had a nana nap....but I got up and put this lavender beauty on. I picked it up at Cabramatta for $3 from one of those awesome dollar shops. YAYURR!

Aussie Curves: Celeb Copy Cat Aaradhna

So I've climbed out of the woodworks to participate in my fave Aussie Curves theme.

Yes. The Celeb Copy Cat week was something I could not miss out on. I had so much fun last year trying to pull together an outfit to match the effortlessly dope Solange Knowles (see post HERE). While everyone in Australia is going cray cray for big sis Beyonce cause she's here at the moment.....I'm totally pissed that I will miss Solange's quick summer tour and New Years concert. She is on my MUST-SEE list and unfortunately, I will be in Hawaii when she is visiting Australia. WHYYYYY??

Anyways, back to this post..... So I've chosen to copy the beautiful Aaradhna. I'll forgive you if you haven't heard of her before. She is New Zealand's very own RNB & soul queen. I knew of her from way back because all of the polynesians were buzzing over that Adeaze track 'Getting stronger' and the good music has not stopped. 

She has recently dropped the superb album Treble & Reverb. Honestly it's soooooo fucking good. Yes, it needs the swear. I'm never excited about new music because there's so much stuff out there these days and I don't have the time to find that needle in the haystack.

But this is exactly what her album is. 

It's the first whole album I've actually bought in a long time and it's a real collection of stories that progresses and takes the listener on a journey. Yes. A real album. Thank you music gods.

Her track WAKE UP has kept me running on the treadmill when my legs have felt like lead, and the entire album is on high rotation in our house still....pretty sure we were playing it this time last year. 

Besides dying over her music, I've also watched her style evolve. I love her appreciation for vintage (and I assume thrifted) dresses and prints. I love her because she's talented, real and polynesian. Aaradhna looks like a lady and sings like a queen. I can't wait for the day I get to listen to her sing live.

I found this gorgeous pic of her on Kiwi blogger Lani Says Aaradhna's Media Showcase post. I love her dress and I have picked up a few like it when I was out on the thrift. My outfit was a dress and a blouse but I cut the dress and made a skirt, just because I do that sometimes. Both are thrifted of course. I love that she is wearing flats. I'm forever living in chucks and dresses. I love that she is a natural beauty.

Aussie Curves: LBD

LBD. 

Little Black Dress aka Lifesaver.

Throughout the years my personal style has changed a lot. Sometimes I look back at old photos and either cringe or laugh. There's rarely a photograph where I think "Dayum girl.....you had it right then." 

I mean when do you ever truly get it right? 

At least there is the LBD. It's like your best friend; reliable and it always makes you feel good. It always has your back and it's fuss free. Throw it on with a few accessories and you can transform your look instantly. I have two that currently sit in my wardrobe and I wore my Forever 21 LBD to my cousin's graduation party. I picked it up in New York on my first ever trip in 2011.

I helped organise my cousin's grad party so throughout the evening I was running around with family to ensure that everything was running smoothly. I had like an hour to get ready after setting up the hall so this LBD was a beautiful timesaver. I paired it with my leather belt and brown wedges for a subtle contrast.

What I've been wearing lately

Hello lovely readers.

I know it's been a while since I have communicated properly and I have to thank all those loyal and interested readers who have stuck around. So I have been extremely busy with the first term of the school year. I have also recently returned back from the Philippines as well as spending the last 2 weeks at home in Nowra with my family and friends. Life has been good and they breaks off school have been magical but it also means that I will have to get back to the grind very soon.

I hope you have all been well. 

Just wanted to share with you a few recent outfit shots. I've been really bad at taking proper outfit shots since I have finally got an iphone. So if you follow me on instagram then you would have seen all of these outfits. Sorry bout that.....I'm no social media maiden so I'm still learning how to juggle all the networks whilst keeping things fresh and relevant. Anywhoooo back to the outfits yeah? I have had a change in my travel plans. My mid year Europe trip has to be put on hold but that's okay because I plan to live there next year. So it's back to the drawing board and I'm hoping to get to New York for Full Figured Fashion Week instead so the possibility of meeting fellow bloggers is really exciting.

Wedding attire in the Philippines

So here is the only proper outfit shot that I got the entire time I was away. The humidity was too much for me to try and compose myself for a shot. I rarely brushed my hair or wore any makeup but here I am in my wedding attire. I picked this dress up in New York on my first visit to Forever 21. This pretty dress was only $22. I've kept it, waiting for the right time to wear it. So Joan & Karl's Wedding  on the beach was the perfect occasion. 

I planned to let my hair hang naturally but it got so hot that I eventually chucked it all up. Dark eyes and nude lips for a dramatic fresh look and I wore my fave purchase from Manila....my green and yellow geometric earrings. No shoes cause I left them on the beach. The hat was a necessity because of the heat and sun. We were lucky enough to capture the last few moments of the sunset.

Blue Rain

Just a super quick post cause I've been so MIA lately. SORRY GUYS! The start of the academic year has my life owned. I have so much to prepare and get sorted. PLUS I've been helping my school harvest the sultana grapes. The more we sell the more money our school gets so I gotta help out you know ;)

Anyways I wore this to church last Sabbath. So super quick. Chucked on my H&M black basic dress and livened it up a little with my beautiful vintage jacket. It's light and it's bold so it was a perfect option to wear to church. Respectable length and all round COOL design. I love the gold embroidery around the pattern. It was thrifted for about $3.00.

Christmas Pt.1

Merry Christmas Friends,

I hope that you all had or a having a wonderful Christmas with family & friends. This is my favourite time of the year and it's also a time where I eagerly await all the Christmas posts from all over the world.

Just wanted to share my Christmas outfit. I picked up the dress for $2 like 3 days before Christmas at one of my local opshops. I love polkadots so as soon as I saw this dress I was like "HELLLLL YEAH!". Wore my fave jacket of the moment. This outfit is a little matchy for me. I usually like to contrast my colours more but what's Christmas if you can't be a matchy poo ;)

Took these photos at the river when I went with my niece and nephew to pick some flowers for our table.

Aussie Curves: Pastels

This weeks Aussie Curves calls for pastels. Now if I was at home or not working full time then I could have found something different, but alas I live here in Mildura and I work full time so I have neither the time nor my usual stock of clothes BUT I did go to church to today and I did wear my adorable vintage bow dress with splashes of pastel purple. I picked it up a few weeks ago in Merbein at the Red Cross store . If you follow me on instagram then you would have seen a photo of the dress but here it is on me. 

I love this dress because this dress doesn't need much else and it's good for someone like me who is always running late. I wore my dress with my comfortable lace wedge boots and I also added a belt to hold my dress in place because it's just a little too long and with the belt and a little fold it creates a better shape and length for my short body.

Sometimes I feel like I'm a little lazy with accessories but I am a big believer in letting the clothes stand out and speak for themselves. Face and lips are neutral for that very same reason. The pattern, the pastel purple, pink and dark green create enough interest for me.
