Aussie Curves:15 week roundup
Hello lovely ones,
Just a quick post here. At the moment I'm in Adelaide for my nieces 4th birthday. Finished work yesterday, chucked everything in the car and BOOM! I'm waking up to my 3 nieces running around my brothers house. Anyways I have been busy again with school work and reports SMH. and I haven't had a chance to find anything strapless. When I packed to move to Mildura I took a whole heap of warm clothes because it gets sooooo cold and I left most of my summer wardrobe at home at the South Coast so my choices are non existent at the moment.
But I have come accustomed to my weekly curves submission and I thought I'd do a 15 week round up (geeeeeeze time flies when you're having fun) of the past 15 weeks worth of fun.
If you're a brilliant mathematician you will notice that there are not 15 pics here and that's because I didn't know about the Aussie Curves challenge until it had already started. The first weeks topic was Boots and the second was Bold Nails (from memory). I missed the first week but I had an outfit with boots and leggings on the third so I figured it made up for it.

What's your favourite outfit here? I think I like my skirts one the best.
Hope you are all well. Enjoy your weekend.
Big love,
Falala Mele.

Aussie Curves: Pastels
This weeks Aussie Curves calls for pastels. Now if I was at home or not working full time then I could have found something different, but alas I live here in Mildura and I work full time so I have neither the time nor my usual stock of clothes BUT I did go to church to today and I did wear my adorable vintage bow dress with splashes of pastel purple. I picked it up a few weeks ago in Merbein at the Red Cross store . If you follow me on instagram then you would have seen a photo of the dress but here it is on me.
I love this dress because this dress doesn't need much else and it's good for someone like me who is always running late. I wore my dress with my comfortable lace wedge boots and I also added a belt to hold my dress in place because it's just a little too long and with the belt and a little fold it creates a better shape and length for my short body.
Sometimes I feel like I'm a little lazy with accessories but I am a big believer in letting the clothes stand out and speak for themselves. Face and lips are neutral for that very same reason. The pattern, the pastel purple, pink and dark green create enough interest for me.
Voting for the NAVABI Blog Award is still open. HUGE thanks to all those who have voted for me.....If you haven't yet and you would like to vote for me then you can find me HERE. I'm 10 on the list and it's so easy. Just click on me and vote. No sign up required ;)
So my friends. What are you wearing? Lusting over? Dreaming about? I'm trying to figure out life plans and money. There are a few big trips planned for next year and that all needs money but being a teacher you can't exactly pick up and leave whenever you want to SOOOOOO I guess I just have to decide something and soon.
Big Love,
Falala Mele.

Navabi Curvy Blog Voting Open Now
Hi lovely ones,
So the buzz around the thick blogosphere is the Navabi Curvy Blog Competition.
If you have been away sipping cocktails on a tropical island without any internet access and you don't know what it's all about; basically it's a chance for you guys to vote for your favourite plus size blogs out there. There are over 100 blogs and it's cool because you can vote for all of your favourite blogs.
I haven't even had the opportunity to sit down and look around at all the blogs but I plan to do that this weekend. YESSSSSS so excited to be staying at home this weekend (must be getting old).
So how does it work?
The top 10 blogs who receive the most votes will be shortlisted and judged by fashion designer Anna Scholz, VOGUE CURVY editor and international curvy model Elisa D’Ospina, international top model Fluvia Lacerda and the Navabi fashion team and the winner will get the unbelievable prize of attending London Fashion Week. YEAH BUUDY!
Now my blog is such a baby in comparison to all these established and heavily followed blogs but I think its a great opportunity to see what the other ladies are doing and the type of communities they are building so I can make my blog better for you guys.
I would be eternally grateful (and I don't mean to make a habit of asking you readers to vote for me all the time because I know your time is precious) but I would appreciate it if you could find the time to vote for FALALA MELE. If I have written or shared anything of value and you think it could be cool to see me over in London then please look for me (I am10 on the list of blogs) vote for me HERE along with your other favourites.
Biggest Love,
Falala Mele

NYC: Sugarcane, Brooklyn
I have been meaning to share my pics from our night at Sugarcane for a really long time. Work combined with the Aussie Curves fun has meant that my limited free time was given to things other than my NY summer adventure recount.
This is another one of our adventures with the Trini-Sissys Gabby and Candice. They wanted to take us to SUGARCANE to experience some authentic Caribbean cuisine (it's voted the best in New York). I swear they are Brooklyn's best tour guides. Full of knowledge about cool places, great food and they are just sooooo much fun.
They insisted we try the callaloo and oxtail OHHHHHHMYGAWSSSSH and the sorrel martinis in JUGS (uh huh that's how the Sissys do it) were the perfect antidote to the hot balmy weather. The atmosphere was cooooool. It was full of people and conversation and the DJ played songs I could only dream about hearing in an Australian club. Hat off to you Sugarcane. You do your food well.
I had big ideas to straighten my hair and wear it down and have my sheer black over sized blouse buttoned up to the top BUT it was too hot! As I walked from my hotel to the train, UP went the hair. As I sat on the train I loosened my buttons. SMH. Oh well what can you do. I'm not going to melt trying to save my intended look. Sometimes you just have to change it up to enjoy the place / event at the time and I did have the best night with my lovely New Yorkers and Aussie sisters.

What I wore: I picked up this sheer over-sized black button-up blouse in St. Marys. I went to get my eyelashes done at 4 Seasons Beauty (they are the best) and there was free clothes at the street fair. FREE CLOTHES? HELL YES! My sister and I found a few pieces and we thought we should leave some for other people but they insisted that we take all we wanted because they have too much stuff. COOL HUH? I found these yellow tights at Kmart. I REALLLLY wanted a pair of yellow shorts before my first US trip and I didn't find any. So when I saw these I was like "YES I finally get my yellow shorts". I cut these and they did the job just fine. Had to wear my faithful chucks because we were trekking all over the New York catching trains and walking to and from places.
Thinking about all my friends in New York. I hope you are all well. I miss you guys xo
Big Love,
Falala Mele xo

Aussie Curves: Polkadots
I wear a lot of polka dots. I love them. The majority of my stuff is black with white polka dots and being the committed opshopper that I am, I pass loads of them on my thrifting travels and they usually end up coming home with me.
Seeing as I always love the classic black with white polka dots and red lips look, I decided to do something different. I picked up this stretchy green polka dot dress from Supre at Harbour Town (I think that is what it is called) in the Gold Coast last April. It was on sale and I loved the colour (I also brought the yellow one when I met the fabulous Daniel Merriweather see HERE) and I thought it would be a perfect addition to my New York summer holiday wardrobe.
Please don't be afraid to walk into straight sized stores. You never know what you might find (size tags do not take into account the material, style and fit of each garment) you just need to look.
This bloody amazing jacket was given to me as a birthday present from my friend Moala. This is a vintage thrifted piece and I love it. My bug glasses were picked up in New York from a street vendor, chain was thrifted and boots were from Target. I love the height they give whilst being incredibly comfortable. What are you wearing your polka dots with my friends?
Big Love,
Falala Mele xo
Happy Birthday Emma
Last night my friends and I went out to The Butterfly Club to celebrate Emma's birthday. We were all running late (what else is new) and had to have a super quick bite to eat before heading in to watch The Girl with the 3-sleeved Shirt. It was an interesting 'Alice in Wonderland' adaption and I was impressed with production. The standout performance was from the guy who played "Jeffy". He played two roles and owned the characters completely. Definitely not what I expected but I'm so happy we got to experience the production. I think the show has ended but I would recommend it to others.
Anyways back to the birthday. Emma has been one of my dearest friends since we met back in college in 2006. OMG 6 years of friendship. We travelled to France, Amsterdam, London, New York and Chicago together. She was the person who convinced me to start this blog and she is always encouraging me to do more. Happy Birthday Emma Magenta. Here's to many more years of friendship, creativity, laughs and adventures. Spain, Paris and Italy next year???
What I wore: This is one of my 3 faithful City Chic skirts. Love it to bits. Top was thrifted from the Salvos for $3.00 the last time I went home. I love the colour and the little bow on the front. Shoes from Target.
