Fiesta

Frida vibes for the Mexican Fiesta party with my sissy CJ.

So I spent last night hanging out with my home crew celebrating the birthdays of two amazing women. Both are working extremely hard towards establishing their careers (one will lead in managing a substantial women's health organisation and the other will soon graduate with a degree in medicine).

Even though the weekdays are jam packed with meetings, study, deadlines and pressure; the weekends usually consists of an opposite agenda. We catch up. Talk shit. Eat, drink, sing and dance. These moments are special because I'm always away from home so I'm usually looking at these photos from some other state. In another 40 days I'll be jetting off to another country to live for a while so I'm consciously trying to be around and connect with as many friends as possible.

I'm thankful for these people and I'm fully aware that these moments are special and should not be taken for granted. It's special when you have friends that make you both proud and happy.   Happy birthday my beautiful sisters. Continue to strive and make those changes for your community.
The birthday girls is full fiesta-swing!

Happy Birthday Emma

Last night my friends and I went out to The Butterfly Club to celebrate Emma's birthday. We were all running late (what else is new) and had to have a super quick bite to eat before heading in to watch The Girl with the 3-sleeved Shirt. It was an interesting 'Alice in Wonderland' adaption and I was impressed with production. The standout performance was from the guy who played "Jeffy". He played two roles and owned the characters completely. Definitely not what I expected but I'm so happy we got to experience the production. I think the show has ended but I would recommend it to others.

Anyways back to the birthday. Emma has been one of my dearest friends since we met back in college in 2006. OMG 6 years of friendship. We travelled to France, Amsterdam, London, New York and Chicago together. She was the person who convinced me to start this blog and she is always encouraging me to do more. Happy Birthday Emma Magenta. Here's to many more years of friendship, creativity, laughs and adventures. Spain, Paris and Italy next year???

What I wore: This is one of my 3 faithful City Chic skirts. Love it to bits. Top was thrifted from the Salvos for $3.00 the last time I went home. I love the colour and the little bow on the front. Shoes from Target.

birthday pt.2 feat. Daniel Merriweather

Hello Lovely Ones!

How are you? Just wanted to update you on a gig I went to last Friday night at the Wollongong Uni Bar. I was VERY EXCITED to find out that Daniel Merriweather would be playing locally(ish) on my birthday weekend. My local WINNING crew came to enjoy the show. Now I know I say this about everyone I see but maybe it is just because the people I choose to see are really that jeffing good! Well he was no exception and NOTHING beats an intimate show where you can see the person performing and they can see (and hear) you = instant connection to the artist and their music *sigh*. He is one of my most favourite voices and that is saying something because I spend most of my time listening to the old schoolers because I'm not too fussed with a lot of the music that is out there these days (I am happy to be educated....just sick of hearing all that repetitive weak shit from people who are driven to make hits rather than music).

Enjoying his whiskey and freely sharing it with others in the audience :) See now that's a nice guy right?

Look at my beautiful jacket my friend Emma Magenta got me for my birthday. $35 from Mickey and Mallory

Dress: Supre $10 / Denim Jacket : Thrifted $35 / Boots: Target $35 Chain: Thrifted $2

Look at the detail! I even got a compliment from Mr. Merriweather himself. He said he liked it ;)
By the end of the show we passed Daniel outside (well I didn't see him) and my sister was like "he is just over there".....I really wanted a photo but I really kinda star struck and I didn't want to run all the way back like a little groupie but after a little convincing I went back....I was like "Jeff it, I want a pic so I'm gonna go and ask for one".....anyways to cut a long story short; he was really nice and asked where we were heading too after the show. We ended up at the Hotel Illawarra in Wollongong dancing to Montell Jordan "This is how we do it" amongst other songs. I love it when unplanned nights become the BEST memories ever.

Daniel Merriweather is still currently touring Australia. There are still heaps of gigs left so go and check him out!

ps. My sister was singing with Daniel Merriweather. Not trying to brag. Just saying.
pps. Sorry I tried to upload a video to share of all his vocal goodness but it wouldn't load on here or youtube. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO >,<

This is how we do it @ Hotel Illawarra

latelies....

Here are just a few things I have picked up while I was out....I wanted to share my new floral clear tint glasses...these are the glasses that I paid a full $20 for (I usually pick up $5 glasses because I buy them so often). I think I am going to wear them out with a lovely black dress I picked up at the City Chic outlet store in Campbelltown for $30....I want to wear them with black so they really stand out :) I love them so much so I took a few snaps so you could see them. It is one of my most old and special friends birthday soon (I'm talking back to kindy days) so I might wear them then.

Speaking of my friend....she doesn't follow so I can tell you all what I made her for her birthday. We have been friends forever. We met in Kindy but she had to repeat Kindy so she has always been a year behind me in school even though she is a few months older than me. Because we were in separate classes we used to write letters to each other all the time. I first thought to make her a mix cd of all our favourite songs from high school....so I starting collating songs "Nobody" Keith Sweat, "Who do you love" Deborah Cox, some "You're making me high" Toni Braxton and my favourite Craig David "Rendezvous".

Then I thought about finding my old pictures and letter boxes.....and to think I have pictures that never were in a digital format is funny....so up opens the scan lid....old letters and pictures that have marked our years of friendship are now scanned and saved....and even though I have been away at college for four years prior not including the first year away from home teaching in Western Australia....we still are very close and we can pick up as if I have never left....truly something to treasure... So I made this photo collage that I will print off and frame...I just have to laugh at all the old styles and all the little secrets bound up in my boxes and boxes of letters...

What do you think of the glasses? Oh and speaking of...I paid for my new glasses today (ones that will help me see better) I'm always wearing glasses, finding glasses and after an eye test...I found that I needed them for real....and I have to say, the range they have was not that good... I only liked one pair (a thick black rimmed pair) and I struggled to find a pair that I liked to get tinted for day driving...so I will share when they arrive...next Wednesday is the big pick up day :)

Lipstick and Polish: Local chemists $4 and under
Glasses: Floral clear tint $20 Equip, others local bargain stores $5 and under
Earrings and Headband: Equip

I have brought new clothes too but I'm sure I will share them soon enough....
