Aussie Curves: LBD

LBD.

Little Black Dress aka Lifesaver.

Throughout the years my personal style has changed a lot. Sometimes I look back at old photos and either cringe or laugh. There's rarely a photograph where I think "Dayum girl.....you had it right then."

I mean when do you ever truly get it right?

At least there is the LBD. It's like your best friend; reliable and it always makes you feel good. It always has your back and it's fuss free. Throw it on with a few accessories and you can transform your look instantly. I have two that currently sit in my wardrobe and I wore my Forever 21 LBD to my cousin's graduation party. I picked it up in New York on my first ever trip in 2011.

I helped organise my cousin's grad party so throughout the evening I was running around with family to ensure that everything was running smoothly. I had like an hour to get ready after setting up the hall so this LBD was a beautiful timesaver. I paired it with my leather belt and brown wedges for a subtle contrast.

Look at how beautiful my family look in their LBDs. Perfect for all shapes and sizes.

Aussie Curves: Sparkle in Las Vegas

Hello lovely ones,

How are you all? So I'm back again with another submission for the Aussie Curves challenge. I'm stuffing up my own rotation because in my head I wanted to share all my USA holiday posts in order (see Harlem post HERE) because that way I will actually get it done this year (fingers crossed). Since this week called for sparkle I knew what I wanted to share with you all.

But for one moment; let us forget about the challenge so I can talk to you about someone else.

This lady is someone who I admired ever since I was a little girl. She is perhaps (and I know I'm making a big call) one of the last standing divas of my time because I love singing and when I was a little girl I would try and emulate 3 singers: Whitney, Mariah & Celine. Sadly Whitney is gone, Mariah lost her sparkle (lol thinking of her movie Glitter) so that leaves one lady standing.

Now you must understand that I am not crazy, but I basically extended my plane ticket to head towards Las Vegas instead of Sydney after New York to see her in the flesh after I found out her show was back in Vegas. I had to let that heavenly voice bless my ears. To hear her sing for real.

I may blare her 'Think Twice' and 'The power of love' when I'm cleaning.

Even though I try to belt it out with her power and finesse and even though I never will be able to do what she does, at least I can say that I saw Celine Dion and I heard her sing her songs even better than I could ever have imagined.

She is flawless, effortless, humble, warm, talented and blessed.

And I got to see all of that.

And I am blessed because of that.

So while my dress may sparkle in the photos; honestly and as cheesy and silly as this may sound......my heart sparkles because I remember the glorious melodies she shared with us on this night.

What I wore:
I picked up this FABULOUS sparkly number from my favourite Op Shop Mickey and Mallory (Nowra, NSW) for only $20. Jess actually said she put it aside for me because she thought I would like it. Don't you love it when shop owners/assistants get it right!

I wanted to look cool when I went to see Celine and this event took precedence over all other events. This outfit was chosen first and saved till last.
When packing for this trip I had to be sensible and pack a pair of comfortable shoes that went with a lot of outfits. So these Target wedges won out (I really do love them anyways but it sucks when you can't take everything that you want to). I kept everything else simple and let the dress do the talking.
Also had big dreams to style my hair in may different ways but I kid you not EVERY TIME we had a show on or an dinner date to meet up with others we were ALWAYS LATE. That combined with the heat (and uncooperative frizzy hair) I always ended up throwing my hair back into a bun. Boring I know, but it was reliable and slick so I will not complain about it now because that's what I had to work with ;)

I got ready in 15 minutes! Literally ran off the strip had 2 minutes in the shower to rinse of the dirt. Throw the hair up and douse it in hairspray. Bronze the face, apply eyeliner and a lick of my favourite matte colour. Perfume, moisturiser and I'm ready to go! Ruthy decided to rock the bed hair look with her pretty Forever 21 dress that she picked up in Times Square. My sister Theresa looked adorable too but I think she is saving her post to share with you lovely ladies herself. Caesar's Palace was cool but it was basically like all the other casinos in Vegas; big, smokey, kinda tacky, packed and well used.

acces denied

Hello my dears!!! It feels like I have been gone forever but its only because my crummy net usage out in the bush was nearly up and its my only link to the outside world so I was trying to be super good and only use a little bit each day.....but then my provider was making some big changes to their billing system and I'm pretty sure it wiped the old usage meter which means I'm back in business!! YEW!

Sometimes I get so caught up with life and my job that I forget I have pictures and outfits that I have never posted....That's like these pics here....I'm pretty sure they are from march. I called this post "access denied" cause it was honestly so freaking sad....well to my life (at the time it was).....after being sick all summer....I finally started to get better...and my cousin sisters from Sydney were down and they were having a retro RNB night at a local pub...so I thought...lets go for a dance.....its free and will surely be a fun time...to cut a long story short we got ready......they boy cousins were drinking......they wanted more alcohol......they were gonna drive to get it...so my cousins boyfriend made my stupid cousin (the one in the front) take them to the bottle-o to stock up on grog...and the time ticked away....to the point where we arrived at the door and got rejected cause we were like 2 minutes passed cut off time.....FML!

I was so mad....it was the first time I was heading out...feeling like a normal person.....feeling pretty again after being pale and stuck in pj's for so long. I actually cried a little...and I never cry! Oh how some disappointments feel like the end of the world.....I can laugh about it now...but I was dirty on the night....my silly "do-gooder" cousin Sia could see how upset I was (I know....GET OVER IT MELE >.<) and she tried to make it all better by saying "we could go here or do that" and it made me feel even lamer for dressing up so much.....and like I thought they would...the stupid boys laughed at us when we came back home from our rejection..... anyways after I kinda realised it wasn't the end of the damn dramatic world I had imagined we decided to swing by to my other sisters house and kidnap her from one of those "I have my man so my family don't exist" relationships.....and we drove around blaring our music like teenagers getting coffee from maccas, taking photos at the local wharf and scouring through K-mart for more summer sale bargains....It was a pretty okay night.....

The outfit: I love this skirt so much...as soon as I saw it I had to go and try it on!!! Its so pretty, and dressy and flattering....it was only $30 and still on sale now (well it WAS but it must have sold out...but there is one close to it on the website here). I love it because I can add any top to it and it will look good. I love it with my $5 top because it looks like a LBD...and its comfy...and the SHOES! Low heel, comfortable for dancing all night and only $20 from City Chic.... both pieces will definitely get a lot of wear!

Happy Birthday Cleone..

The hardest thing about being away from home when working is missing out....missing out on birthdays, special occasions and just plain old good times with family and friends....I have been home for a while now and I am getting ready to fly out tomorrow morning.....I should be packing...but I'd rather blog...its how I cope...just do it all last minute so I'm in such a rush that I have no time to get sad and miss everyone....BUT THIS TIME I was lucky enough to be here for my dearest friend's birthday....Miss Cleone.... friends since Kindy....which reminds me, I still need to drop her present off...O_o better do that soon.....so any ways just wanted to share a few pics...also excited that I have a few people lined up to be featured on my blog...so that should be coming your way soon.....I really do hope that you are all well....
